This self-study training has been created to cover the universal infection control standards and precautions to be used in a healthcare setting. A certificate will be immediately available online following successful completion of all course material.

The content of this Infection Control training covers an overview of Infection Control procedures and basic techniques  used in a healthcare facility for preventing or minimizing the chance of infection.

Target Audience
This course is for anyone who works at a facility that provides patient care or provides referrals for patient care. Please NOTE: This course is not a state certified infection control course and can not be used to comply with state requirement for health care professionals to receive training on infection control and barrier precautions every four years upon renewal of their license.

The purpose of this course is to increase your awareness of effective Infection Control in the healthcare setting. Upon completing this course, you will be able to perform the following tasks:
  • Discuss the purpose of standard precautions and regulated medical waste
  • Discuss the purpose of hand hygiene
  • Identify ways to prevent Tuberculosis transmission to employees and patient/residents
  • Identify at least three symptoms of Tuberculosis
  • Identify at least two symptoms of Hepatitis B
  • Identify ways to prevent HIV transmission to employees and patient/residents
  • List specific measures that protect employees and patient/residents from exposure to and transmission of infectious disease
  • List examples of activities the healthcare facility engages in to keep patient/residents and visitors safe related to infections
