MASH Camp, or Medical Academy of Science and Health, is a fun and educational day camp for students entering 8th and 9th grades to explore health careers. Students are exposed to a variety of job opportunities that may require on-the-job-training to an advanced college degree, highlighting the fact that there is a job for everyone in healthcare.

Students enjoy two to three days of fun and interaction at a local hospital, where they will:

  • Learn about a variety of health professions as viable career options
  • Learn about the educational requirements, skills, typical job duties, and personal qualities of successful health professionals and para-professionals
  • Participate in interactive, hands-on workshops* that highlight the skills, equipment, technology, and resources used by health professionals

As part of the camp experience, each participant will receive scrubs and lanyard with name badge to wear at camp; breakfast, lunch, and snacks; certificate of participation; and lots of attention from caring health professionals!

Workshop topics are specific to each healthcare facility, and may include activities focusing on physical therapy, nursing, surgery, food service, clinical laboratory sciences, cardiac care, pathology, diagnostic imaging, recreational therapy, pharmacy, emergency medicine, and more.

  • MASH Camp tuition varies depending on the location.

  • This year, we're proud to partner with Cayuga Medical Center, UHS Wilson Medical Center, Lourdes Hospital, Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Cortland Regional Medical Center, Oswego Hospital, and Rome Memorial Hospital.

  • Since MASH Camps are held in hospital settings, all campers must have a recent physical (within the last year) and a flu shot. Campers will also need to have a PPD test, a skin test that determines if you have tuberculosis. This requires visits to the doctor, so we encourage students and parents to call early in order to be cleared for camp!

  • All campers will be provided with scrubs to wear in the hospital at the first day of camp. Please wear comfortable clothing to make changing in and out of your scrubs easily.

  • We hope to notify all parents on or around June 1, 2016.

MASH Camp is an incredible experience. Learn suturing, try laporoscopic surgery tools, visit a pathology lab, etc. Fabulous, behind the scenes program for any teen with any interest in science. Ideal hands-on learning…fun and transformative.
