Preventing Adverse Drug Events: Individualizing Glycemic Targets Using Health Literacy Strategies

This course is designed to train health care providers to reduce hypoglycemic adverse drug events (ADEs) by applying the latest evidence-based guidelines for individualized glycemic target goals and using patient-centered communication strategies: teach back and shared decision making. Content is derived from evidence-based guidelines in diabetes management and a group of subject matter experts in diabetes management.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Administrators, DOs, MDs, medical assistants, medical students, nurse practitioners, nurse technicians, pharmacists, physician assistants, program managers, registered nurses, nursing students, public health students, public health practitioners

PREREQUISITES:

  • Knowledge of diabetes as a health issue that can increase the risk for other health conditions
  • Knowledge of diabetes management
  • Knowledge of patient education for diabetes patients

    The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

  • To obtain Continuing Education (CE) for this course, you must register at the Training and Continuing Education website (TCE Online) and complete the requirements for CE. To register, please follow the following steps:

    Go to http://www.cdc.gov/tceonline/. Select Participant Login to login. If you are new to TCEO, select New Participant to create an account.

    On the Participant Services page, select the Search and Register link.
    Select a search method to locate the course and click on View.
    Click on the course, and scroll down to Register Here. Select the type of CE requested and then Submit.
    Either complete or verify the demographic information and select Submit.
    If you have already completed the course, select the option to take the evaluation. Complete the evaluation and Submit. If a posttest is required it will follow the evaluation.
    If you have not completed the course, you will be directed back to Participant Services. Under Evaluations and Tests you may access the course detail page, the course link, or the evaluation and/or posttest after completing the course.
    Your CE certificate will be located in the Transcript and Certificate section, located on the Participant Services page.
