This recap (see link at bottom) of New York State’s DSRIP Project covered by Healthcare IT News reminds us of familiar themes, namely that the movement promotes community-level collaborations, medicaid system redesign, and value-based outcomes as opposed to fee for service systems. However, what Joseph Conte, Executive Director of the Staten Island PPS reminds us, also, is that the project is revolutionizing the role that information technology (IT) plays in healthcare. In particular, healthcare data sharing and analytics is crucial for PPSs to ensure they are complying with and meeting DSRIP requirements.
In an interview with Healthcare IT News directly, Conte stated: “We’re interested in the sharing of health information across continuum of care,” and then asks, “From primary care hospitals to doctors to outpatients to short term rehabilitation facilities, how can all information flow without interruption?”
The necessity of information processing technology suddenly becomes apparent. Hopefully this growing relationship between healthcare and IT will continue to open up pathways, not only for those complying with DSRIP reforms, but in patient-care as a whole.
